DESCRIPTION
RED Construction’s delivery of the Ruby Lucy Hotel in London marked the first unveiling of the Munich-based hotel brand’s ‘lean luxury’ concept and philosophy to the UK.
Occupying a former office building in close proximity to Waterloo station, RED brought to life the vision of a ‘carnivalesque bolthole’, with the project’s designers taking inspiration from the fairs, markets and theatre performances that have historically taken place in the surrounding Southbank area of London.
The unique scheme comprises 77 bedrooms across four floors, in addition to atmospheric reception, bar and general communal seating areas. The demanding project programme also required the creation of a basement area for all back-of-house requirements, and alongside the hotel works, RED delivered the shell and core construction for five retail units on the development’s ground floor.
The reinforced concrete frame structure is completed with steel from the fourth level to the roof, while the striking outer brickwork façade seamlessly integrates with the distinctive environment of the Lower Marsh area.
