Delivering practical, measurable sustainability through innovation, collaboration, and lasting social impact.

At RED, sustainability isn’t an afterthought, it’s embedded into everything we do. Our dedicated in-house Sustainability Team. BREEAM-accredited Site AP champions, work alongside our project teams on every site to deliver meaningful environmental and social impact. Through our RED to Green strategy, we tackle carbon reduction, circularity, and social value, ensuring each project aligns with UK Net Zero 2050 targets.

From designing out waste to selecting low-carbon materials, and from supporting local communities to embedding social value in every project, our team ensures that sustainability is delivered practically, consistently, and measurably. This hands-on approach allows RED to not only meet ambitious targets but also to create lasting positive change across the communities and environments in which we work.

DELIVERING SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION

Through our RED to Green strategy, we deliver sustainable construction solutions that actively reduce environmental impact – aligning with UK Net Zero 2050 targets through focused action on carbon reduction, circularity, and social value.

CARBON EMISSIONS

We’re on track to hit Net Zero (Scopes 1 & 2) by 2030 and Scope 3 by 2050. Using the GHG Protocol and RICS standards, we track emissions at both company and project levels. Key initiatives include transitioning to electric and hybrid vehicle fleets, adopting renewable electricity across sites, and minimising embodied carbon through material selection and Life Cycle Assessment tools.

WASTE & CIRCULARITY

We take a circular approach to construction waste by designing for efficiency, prioritising reuse, and tracking performance in real time through SmartWaste. Since 2024, we’ve diverted 99.3% of non-hazardous waste from landfill, aiming to reduce waste intensity below 9 tonnes per 100m² GIA by 2026, with reuse, material recovery, and circular procurement now standard practice. We partner with organisations like Community Wood Recycling and Powerday, and sponsor Circular Steel 2025, to advance circular innovation and material reuse across the industry.

CERTIFICATIONS & SYSTEMS

Over 90% of our projects pursue recognised sustainability certifications such as BREEAM, NABERS, and WELL. Our in-house BREEAM Accredited Professionals work closely with design teams to meet — and often exceed — targeted ratings. We also embed sustainability into our procurement, following ISO 20400 to ensure our supply chain meets RED’s environmental and ethical standards.

SOCIAL VALUE & COMMUNITY

We embed social value into every project, focusing on community engagement, inclusive employment, and local opportunity. We offer structured work experience placements in partnership with local schools, helping young people explore careers in construction.

Our projects include tailored Employment and Skills Plans aligned with local authority goals, supporting job creation, training, and long-term workforce development. Through our partnership with Strive Development, we actively recruit from local communities and prioritise working with local SMEs to boost regional economies and build sustainable supply chains.

Since 2022, our teams have raised over £200,000 for charitable causes including Pancreatic Cancer UK and London’s Air Ambulance. We’re proud to support local communities through volunteering, fundraising, and site-based engagement – ensuring our impact goes far beyond the buildings we deliver.
