RED hosts interactive seminar with London Met MSc Students
Recently, Tony O’Farrell and Matt Wallbank from the Curtain House Team, alongside Amanda Hoang, our Sustainability & Environmental Champion, had the pleasure of hosting a seminar at London Metropolitan University for students pursuing MSc degrees in Construction Project Management and Project Management.
The session explored our role as a main contractor and examined key industry challenges, from modern construction methods and emerging technologies to ESG priorities, supply-chain pressures, and recent building-regulation changes.
Approximately 30 students participated in the session, engaging actively with thoughtful questions and sharing perspectives from their academic studies. As part of a hands-on exercise bridging theory and practice, students were divided into project teams and tasked with developing strategic approaches for a hypothetical refurbishment project. Each group focused on either ESG implementation or technology integration, all while taking into account client needs, site limitations, and regulatory frameworks. Despite tight timelines, each team delivered well-reasoned presentations, showcasing both technical understanding and strong communication skills.
We’d like to extend our thanks to the students for their enthusiasm, the academic staff at LMU for their collaboration, and Aviva Investors for their ongoing support of this educational partnership.
Initiatives like this highlight the importance of collaboration between industry and academia, helping to prepare the next generation of professionals for the real-world demands of the construction sector.
